
Gramma Mill's Gluten Free Foods was conceived in 2004 after my youngest son was diagnosed as gluten intolerent through genetic testing. I have two of the markers and my husband has one.
We decided as a family, to make the change to a gluten free diet and started shopping the gluten free aisles in the stores in our area. (We live in Maine). We were stunned by the lack of flavor, height and the heaviness of the products that were available in the market at that time.
Always having had a love for cooking I put my apron on, rolled my sleeves up and began to develope a recipe so my son could at least have a pizza because he missed it so much. After about six months of trial and error, I managed to get the right mixture of GF flours and Mama Stefano's Pizza Crust was born! This opened the doors and soon I was able to develop more foods (muffins,pancakes,waffles,etc ) for my family and I to enjoy.
Working full time as a Cardiac Care R.N., I usually bring food to work (we all do) so we can get something to eat on the fly (if we have time). Soon, my co- workers,technicians and doctors started telling me that I should open a restaurant because my food was so good, and they could not tell that it's gluten free. After hearing this for about a year, I decided to investigate the possibility of producing gluten free mixes as a home based processor. Because Maine has such a large argricultural base, I was able to start a business in my home in January of 2007.
Fast forward to today,Gramma Mill's is still home based and also licensed to bake. Completely gluten free, FDA registered and inspected, selling products in over 150 stores and, I still work full time as a Cardiac R. N.
